As announced by Chief Minister M K Stalin, schools across Tamil Nadu were partially opened for Classes IX to XII on Wednesday amidst strict COVID SOPs.

School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi inspected the arrangements at Government Hobart Muslim Girls Higher Secondary School in Royapettah in Chennai to ensure whether Covid-19 SOP is followed to ensure the safety of the students. Earlier, the minister also inspected a few other schools in the city.
On the sidelines of the inspection, the minister told reporters that “all the schools have been directed to maintain strict Standard Covid Protocol and there will not be any compromise on this. The Chief Education Officers and the District Education Officers will monitor each and every school and make sure that there are no lapses in the arrangements.’’
He also said that the schools can function till 3.30 pm. However, the government would not make it strict for the classes to function till 3.30 pm. He said that 95 percent of teachers and non-teaching staff in the state have received at least one dose of vaccine.
The minister directed the Headmistress Kanmani and other teachers to support the emotional needs of the students, such as psychological counseling and conduct refresher training for the next two months instead of directly beginning teaching lessons.
After nearly one and half years, parents, students and teachers are expecting that the classes would be conducted without any hindrance and with a falling Covid-19 fresh cases and increase in vaccination drives, the state government is expecting to continue holding classes.
The minister went around the sprawling green campus of the school and also the classrooms, seating arrangements to check whether the school was adhering to all SOPs. He lauded the neat and tidy arrangements of the green campus, and asked the school management to keep it up.
The pledge on SOP was administered to the students by a senior teacher in the presence of the minister and MLAs.
To mark his visit, the minister also planted a tree sapling in the campus.
MLAs Udhayanidhi Stalin, Dr Ezhilan and Ezhilarasan, officials from the Education Department, including Chennai CEO S Mars and District Education Officer (Chennai Central) and others accompanied the minister.
Earlier on Tuesday, the minister inspected the arrangements at the Lady Wellington Girls Higher Secondary School in Triplicane.
