Agurchand Manmull Jain College hosted an event dedicated to spreading awareness about the pressing issue of ragging, as part of the Anti-Ragging Orientation Program here on Saturday. The event, jointly organized to mark the anti-ragging week from Aug 12 to Aug 18 by the Anti-Ragging and Discipline Committees, aimed to raise awareness among new students about the dangers of ragging.
Dr P Shakthivel, Director of Tamilnadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, was the chief guest. Dr. Shakthivel’s insightful discourse shed light on legal aspects and legislations, empowering students with knowledge to counter ragging. He also shed light on the multifaceted negative consequences of ragging, particularly on the vulnerable youth and adolescents in his address, while emphasizing the pivotal role of proactive students in curbing such practices and creating a conducive environment for learning.

College Principal Dr N Venkataramanan and Dean Dr MM Ramya graced the event, while college seniors staged a street play under the theme “Don’t rag, Don’t get ragged.”

A series of creative competitions throughout the week under the theme “SAY NO TO RAGGING” further raised awareness. Prizes were awarded by Dr Shakthivel, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to a safe educational environment. Notably, this initiative was a part of the Anti-Ragging Week, celebrated from August 12 to August 18, a dedicated annual observance aimed at eradicating the menace of ragging from educational institutions.
