Marking a grand finish to two days of epic celebration of the unifying love for pop culture, the debut edition of Maruti Suzuki Arena Ahmedabad Comic Con ringed in #TheBestWeekendOfTheYear for the city’s fandom community. The second day of the event witnessed a bigger congregation of enthusiastic fans and cosplayers revelling in the pop culture celebrations with style.
Homegrown comics’ enthusiasts were seen hovering around Abhijeet Kini having their fan-moments and getting autographed copies of his brand-new comic books, ‘Ek Din Ka Hero’ & ‘Fun Tales of India’. The event also witnessed the team of Bullseye Press unveiling its latest comic series – Inferno.
Comic Con India events are incomplete without some live performances by pop culture artists. Ahmedabad’s fandom community also got an opportunity to sway to the hip hop beats of Mumbai’s Dance Mantra academy and the superhero playlist by Geekfruit. To further engage the audience of Ahmedabad, illusionist Karan Singh mesmerized them with his unique psychological act at the main Arena Stage whereas Sapan Verma delivers a much-needed laughter therapy.
Sumit Kumar from team Bakarmax was also seen interacting with the crowd about his latest webcomic titles Aap ki Poojita to Pitch Please & more! The comic convention also hosted other Indian comic book publishers, creators, illustrators and writers like Vivek Goel (Holy Cow Entertainment) and Saumin Patel.
Retail stalls by key exhibitors like The Souled Store, Funko by Wizplex, Planet Superheroes, Toki Doki, Printoctopus, XP Pen, Red Wolf Apparel and EFG Store. were a hit. The crowd thronged them all to take home a memory of their Comic Con experience.
Jatin Varma, Founder – Comic Con India, said, “I am quite overwhelmed with the response generated from the fans in Ahmedabad, which indicates that people in this country are finally identifying themselves with this pop culture. They are not just embracing the west-dominated movies, comic, and games but are giving equal emphasis to Indian pop culture foundation, which is great progress.”
An exciting line-up of immersive zones like Maruti Suzuki Arena, Doritos, The Gaming Zone by Esports Club, Warner Bros and WWE were the key attractions at the Ahmedabad Comic Con.
The city’s Comic Con convention also brought several seasoned cosplayers as well as highly talented cosplay enthusiasts coming to the forefront and displaying their creatively curated costumes and acting skills, while battling it out in the Arena on both the days for the Ahmedabad Comic Con Cosplay Contest. Sharleen Khan won the grand prize worth INR 20000 in this category. Meanwhile, Akshay Churi was selected to represent the city at the Indian Championship of Cosplay 2021 qualifiers to win INR 50000 and further get a chance to represent the country at the Crown Championship of Cosplay scheduled in Chicago.
With so many exciting launches, remarkable artist sessions, and fabulous performances, Ahmedabad Comic Con 2020 has remarkably raised the bar for the pop culture audience and comic fans from the city.
