NE ENVIRONMENT BUREAU

AHMEDABAD, AUG 29

When a port becomes more than a gateway for global trade and begins measuring its success by how responsibly it uses resources, protects ecosystems and prepares for a climate-conscious future, infrastructure takes on a new meaning.

That green transformation at APSEZ Mundra has now earned national recognition, with Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. (APSEZ), Mundra being conferred the “Legend (Emerging)” Award in the Environment Sustainability category at the 21st EXCEED Environment Awards 2026.

The award was presented by Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat to a senior Adani official, marking a significant recognition of APSEZ Mundra’s sustainability-oriented approach to port operations.

Green credentials take centre stage

Organised by the Sustainable Development Mission under the Government of India’s LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) initiative, the EXCEED Environment Awards recognise organisations demonstrating exemplary commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable business practices.

For APSEZ Mundra, the honour places the environmental dimension of one of India’s major port and logistics hubs firmly in the spotlight.

The recognition reflects the company’s continuing efforts to integrate sustainability into its operations through responsible resource management, environmental conservation initiatives and long-term stakeholder value creation.

Rather than treating sustainability as a peripheral corporate responsibility, the award acknowledges efforts to weave environmental considerations into the functioning and future growth of port infrastructure.

Sustainability meets port operations

Ports sit at the intersection of commerce, industry, energy, logistics and sensitive coastal ecosystems, making environmental stewardship particularly significant.

APSEZ Mundra’s recognition comes against this backdrop, highlighting its stated focus on making sustainability an integral component of its operations while pursuing business growth.

The award citation recognises the organisation’s commitment towards environmental stewardship and sustainable business practices, reflecting the growing importance of responsible resource use and conservation in large-scale infrastructure.

The recognition also signals how India’s sustainability conversation is expanding beyond conventional conservation projects to include industrial, logistics and infrastructure ecosystems.

A ‘Life’ approach to business

The award was organised under the Government of India’s LiFE—Lifestyle for Environment initiative, which seeks to encourage environmentally responsible behaviour and resource-conscious lifestyles.

For businesses, the philosophy increasingly translates into reducing environmental footprints, improving resource efficiency and embedding sustainability into decision-making.

Against this evolving landscape, APSEZ said the recognition reinforces its commitment to setting new benchmarks in sustainable port operations.

The company also said the honour strengthens its resolve to contribute to India’s environmental and climate goals while creating long-term value for stakeholders.

Mundra’s green message to India’s infrastructure sector

The significance of the recognition extends beyond a single award.

As India expands its ports, logistics networks and industrial infrastructure to support economic growth, the environmental footprint of that expansion is becoming an increasingly important policy and business consideration.

The APSEZ Mundra recognition therefore carries a wider message: economic infrastructure and environmental responsibility need not be competing objectives.

Responsible resource management, conservation initiatives and sustainability-led operational practices can become part of the infrastructure story itself.

The “Legend (Emerging)” honour thus gives APSEZ Mundra an opportunity to position its sustainability journey as a continuing commitment rather than a one-time achievement.

And as India’s climate ambitions become increasingly intertwined with its development strategy, the greenest port of the future may not simply be the busiest one—but the one that demonstrates how trade, technology, conservation and climate responsibility can move together.
