AHMEDABAD, JULY 3

Gujarat is set to take centre stage in India’s semiconductor revolution on Friday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates the CG Semi Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility at Sanand, a milestone expected to significantly strengthen the country’s position in the global electronics and semiconductor value chain. The Gujarat leg of the Prime Minister’s visit follows a packed schedule in Rajasthan, where he will dedicate, inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for development projects worth around ₹1.06 lakh crore across multiple sectors.

The Sanand facility marks one of the first major projects to become operational under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). Developed with an investment of over ₹7,500 crore, the state-of-the-art unit will offer end-to-end semiconductor assembly and testing services, including wafer sorting, package design, testing, product characterisation and logistics support.

Once operating at full capacity, the facility will manufacture up to five billion semiconductor chips annually, catering to the rapidly growing requirements of artificial intelligence (AI), high-performance computing, automotive electronics, telecommunications, 5G, industrial automation and Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

The inauguration is expected to reinforce Gujarat’s emergence as India’s preferred destination for advanced electronics manufacturing while supporting the country’s vision of building a resilient and self-reliant semiconductor ecosystem.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister will begin his visit in Jodhpur, where he will launch the Modified UDAN Scheme, aimed at expanding regional air connectivity with an outlay of ₹28,840 crore over the next decade. The revamped programme envisages the development of 100 aerodromes, construction of 200 modern helipads, viability gap funding for airlines and greater deployment of indigenous aircraft, including HAL Dhruv helicopters and Dornier aircraft.

He will also inaugurate the new Jodhpur Airport Terminal Building, constructed at a cost of ₹480 crore. Spread over more than 23,000 square metres, the terminal has the capacity to handle 20 lakh passengers annually and blends Rajasthan’s traditional architectural heritage with modern, sustainable infrastructure designed to achieve a 5-Star GRIHA rating.

From Jodhpur, the Prime Minister will proceed to Balotra, where he will dedicate, inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for projects worth approximately ₹1.06 lakh crore covering petrochemicals, metro rail, highways, railways, renewable energy and power transmission.

Among the flagship projects is the dedication of India’s first greenfield integrated Refinery-cum-Petrochemical Complex at Pachpadra, developed jointly by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and the Government of Rajasthan with an investment exceeding ₹79,450 crore.

The 9 MMTPA refinery integrates refining with petrochemical production and features a petrochemical capacity of 2.4 MMTPA, positioning it among the country’s most advanced energy infrastructure projects. The complex is expected to boost India’s energy security, reduce import dependence, catalyse downstream industries and generate significant employment.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the ₹13,000-crore Jaipur Metro Phase-II, dedicate key railway doubling projects in north-west Rajasthan, inaugurate the four-laning of NH-125A, dedicate major solar energy projects at Bikaner, inaugurate critical renewable energy transmission infrastructure and distribute appointment letters to nearly 54,000 newly recruited youth across various departments of the Rajasthan Government.

The twin-state visit reflects the Centre’s integrated development strategy, combining world-class manufacturing, energy security, advanced technology, sustainable infrastructure and employment generation. While Rajasthan strengthens India’s industrial and energy backbone, Gujarat’s latest semiconductor milestone is expected to accelerate the country’s journey towards becoming a globally competitive electronics manufacturing powerhouse.
