In a defining moment for India’s digital future, Jeet Adani and Rakesh Bharti Mittal positioned Visakhapatnam as the country’s next big AI and data infrastructure gateway, underscoring the transformative role of energy, connectivity, and scale.
Addressing leaders and stakeholders at the foundation-laying ceremony of a $15-billion Google AI data centre, Jeet Adani declared: “There are moments in history when future announces itself with clarity and conviction. Today is one such moment in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh’s emerging gateway to India’s digital future.”
He emphasised that the global AI race is no longer about software alone: “The global AI race is not being defined by software alone. It is being defined by those who can build the infrastructure beneath intelligence.”
Highlighting India’s scale opportunity, he said: “Today, India stands at approximately 1.3 GW of data centre capacity. Just for context, here in Visakhapatnam, we are envisioning nearly 1 GW in a single location.”
Calling energy the backbone of the AI revolution, Jeet Adani added: “AI may be written in code, but it runs on electricity… In simple terms, the cost of intelligence is the cost of power.”
He stressed India’s structural advantage: “Trust. Execution. And most importantly, energy.”
On the strategic shift in digital infrastructure, he noted: “For the first time in decades, India is opening a new digital gateway beyond just two cities, redefining how the country connects to the world.”
Praising Andhra Pradesh’s leadership, he said: “Under the vision of Shri Chandrababu Naidu ji… Andhra Pradesh is moving with speed and clarity… What stands out is execution.”
Projecting the city’s future, he asserted: “Just as Bengaluru defined India’s technology revolution, Visakhapatnam is going to anchor India’s AI revolution.”
Reinforcing the group’s long-term commitment, he said: “We have committed $100 billion to build a platform that supports India’s AI growth.”
On AI’s broader impact, he added: “When intelligence becomes more affordable, access expands. Innovation accelerates. Growth becomes more inclusive.”
Meanwhile, Rakesh Bharti Mittal highlighted the region’s evolving identity: “Visakhapatnam, historically a maritime gateway, will now evolve into a gateway for the intelligence age.”
He emphasised the scale of opportunity: “The opportunity for this region is immense, and Visakhapatnam will serve as the gateway for Digital India and intelligence-driven infrastructure.”
Mittal credited the state’s governance: “The Andhra Pradesh government… has consistently demonstrated policy clarity and execution capability.”
The project—being developed through partnerships involving AdaniConneX and Nxtra by Airtel—aims to build a sustainable, AI-ready ecosystem powered by renewable energy, advanced cable landing stations, and ultra-low latency fibre networks.
Both leaders stressed that lower energy costs would directly reduce the cost of computing, training, and deploying AI models—unlocking access, innovation, and scalability.
With undersea cable infrastructure, integrated energy systems, and gigawatt-scale capacity, Visakhapatnam is poised to become the nerve centre of India’s AI ambitions—signalling a decisive shift in the global digital landscape.
