CHENNAI, MAR 30
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M. K. Stalin on Monday filed his nomination from the Kolathur Assembly constituency, setting the stage for a high-voltage electoral contest in one of Chennai’s most closely watched segments.
Soon after filing his papers, Stalin expressed strong confidence of securing a fourth consecutive victory from Kolathur, a constituency he has represented since 2011.

- Kolathur emerges as symbolic battleground in Tamil Nadu’s political chessboard
“The people of Kolathur have always stood by me. I am confident they will once again bless me with a decisive victory,” Stalin said after filing his nomination.
A Familiar Fortress, A Fresh Battle
Stalin has won from Kolathur in the 2011, 2016, and 2021 Assembly elections, steadily consolidating the constituency as a DMK stronghold. This time, however, the stakes are higher, with multiple parties positioning strong candidates to challenge the मुख्यमंत्री.
The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is banking on governance, welfare delivery, and infrastructure development as its key campaign pillars.
Opposition Lines Up: Multi-Cornered Contest
Kolathur is expected to witness a multi-cornered contest with candidates likely from:
- Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-turned-politician Vijay
- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
- Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK)
- Other regional and alliance players
While official candidate announcements are awaited or evolving, opposition parties are gearing up to turn Kolathur into a prestige battle against the incumbent Chief Minister.
Roadshow and Report Card Politics
After filing his nomination, Stalin held a brief roadshow, waving to supporters and seeking their continued backing. He also released a book detailing his government’s achievements in the Kolathur constituency.
“Our work speaks for itself — from infrastructure to welfare schemes, every section of society has benefited,” he noted.
Symbolism Beyond a Seat
Kolathur is not just another constituency — it represents Stalin’s political journey and leadership credibility. A fourth consecutive win would further укрепить his standing within the party and the state’s political landscape.
Political observers note that the constituency could reflect broader voter sentiment in urban Tamil Nadu, especially amid emerging challenges from new entrants like TVK and renewed efforts by national parties.
