AHMEDABAD, JUNE 29
Planting trees, nurturing hope and cultivating responsible citizenship, GLS University transformed its Centennial Year celebrations into a powerful environmental movement with the successful organisation of “Roots of Tomorrow – Tree Plantation Drive” at its Ellisbridge campus on Sunday.
More than a ceremonial plantation initiative, the event evolved into a collective pledge towards building a cleaner, greener and more sustainable Ahmedabad, reflecting the University’s enduring commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement.
The plantation drive was inaugurated by Banchhanidhi Pani, IAS, Commissioner, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), while eminent senior journalist Ajay Umat addressed students and faculty members on the urgent need for citizen-led environmental action and sustainable urban development.
Leading the initiative, Sudhir Nanavati, President of GLS University, joined the dignitaries in planting saplings and inspired students to view every tree as an investment in the future.
Interacting with the students, he encouraged them to actively participate in environmental conservation and emphasised the importance of nurturing each sapling as a symbol of responsibility towards future generations.
The event also witnessed the presence of Dr. Chandni Kapadia, Executive Director, GLS University, along with members of the University Management Team, Principals, Directors, Deans, Heads of Institutions, faculty members, administrative staff and a large gathering of enthusiastic students representing various faculties.
Addressing the gathering, Ajay Umat underlined the collective responsibility of society in protecting natural resources and preserving ecological balance.
He encouraged young people to recognise that environmental conservation begins with individual action and stressed that educational institutions have a vital role in nurturing socially responsible citizens committed to sustainable development.
One of the defining moments of the programme was the ceremonial plantation of saplings by the dignitaries, symbolising growth, resilience, hope and a shared commitment to environmental preservation.

Students and faculty members enthusiastically participated in the plantation drive, pledging to nurture every sapling and contribute meaningfully towards building a cleaner and greener Ahmedabad.
The initiative reflected the larger spirit of the GLS Centennial Celebrations, where commemorative events are designed not merely to celebrate a historic milestone but to create lasting social and environmental impact.
Through “Roots of Tomorrow”, GLS University reaffirmed its commitment to producing future-ready leaders who combine academic excellence with environmental consciousness, social responsibility and a deep commitment to nation-building.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge by students, faculty members and dignitaries to continue supporting sustainability initiatives and work together for a healthier planet and a greener tomorrow.
