AHMEDABAD, JUNE 4
In a unique convergence of healthcare, environmental sustainability and social responsibility, Marengo CIMS Hospital, in association with Angadan Charitable Trust, commemorated World Environment Day 2026 with a large-scale awareness and engagement programme themed “Save Water – Save Kidney – Save Environment.”

Held at R.K. Royal Hall on Science City Road in Ahmedabad, the initiative underscored the vital relationship between kidney health, water conservation, environmental protection and organ donation awareness, bringing together healthcare professionals, patients, donor families and community stakeholders.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest C. R. Patil, Union Minister of Jal Shakti, and Guest of Honour Dilip Deshmukh, Founder of Angadan Charitable Trust, shared perspectives on environmental conservation, responsible healthcare practices and the importance of community participation in building a healthier and more sustainable future.
A key focus of the programme was the role of dialysis and kidney transplantation in managing chronic kidney disease. Medical experts highlighted that while dialysis remains an indispensable life-saving treatment for thousands of patients with kidney failure, successful kidney transplantation can significantly enhance long-term quality of life and reduce dependence on repeated medical interventions.
One of the most emotional moments of the event was the felicitation of dialysis warriors, kidney transplant recipients and cadaver donor families for their resilience, determination and invaluable contribution to saving lives through organ donation.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Mayur Patil, Consultant Nephrologist, Marengo CIMS Hospital, Ahmedabad, said, “Dialysis is an essential and life-saving therapy for patients with chronic kidney failure. However, for medically eligible patients, kidney transplantation can offer better long-term outcomes, improved quality of life and greater independence with reduced hospital dependency.”
Highlighting the broader sustainability dimension of organ transplantation, Dr Siddharth Mavani, Director – Nephrology & Kidney Transplant, Marengo CIMS Hospital, Ahmedabad, added, “Along with transforming patient lives, successful kidney transplantation may also help reduce the long term environmental impact associated with ongoing dialysis care, including repeated water usage and biomedical waste generation. Increasing awareness about organ donation is therefore important for both healthcare and sustainability.”
Emphasising the institution’s holistic approach to healthcare, Mayur Dave, Facility Director, Marengo CIMS Hospital, Ahmedabad, said, “This initiative reflected our commitment towards connecting healthcare awareness with environmental responsibility. Through prevention, organ donation awareness, sustainable healthcare practices, and community participation, we can collectively work towards a healthier future for both people and the planet.”
The programme also reinforced the importance of preventive nephrology, with experts educating attendees about adequate hydration, diabetes management, blood pressure control, early kidney screening and healthy lifestyle practices to reduce the risk of kidney disease.
Through its compelling message — “Save Water – Save Kidney – Save Environment” — the initiative highlighted how environmental stewardship and public health are deeply interconnected, and how informed community action can help safeguard both human lives and natural resources for generations to come.
