A powerful wave of awareness swept across the Sabarmati Riverfront as the ‘Move Free. Live Pain-Free’ Rheumatology Awareness Walkathon 2026 brought together nearly 150 participants—patients, caregivers, rheumatologists and supporters—in a united stride towards healthier joints and informed living.

Organised by the Rheumatology Association of Gujarat (RAG), in collaboration with the Indian Rheumatology Association (IRA) and supported by patient group Antardhwani, the event underscored the urgent need to recognise, diagnose and manage arthritis and autoimmune diseases early.
Participants covered a spirited 3-km stretch near Sardar Bridge, carrying placards and banners that echoed the campaign’s central message—mobility is not a luxury, but a necessity for quality life.

RAG President, consultant rheumatologist Dr Reena Sharma, said: “By walking together, we have broken the silence on arthritis and autoimmune challenges. Let us commit to timely diagnosis and lifelong mobility for all.”
Reinforcing the message, RAG Vice-President Dr Vishnu Sharma noted: “Events like this remind us that rheumatic diseases are manageable with early intervention and community support. Today’s steps forward symbolise hope for pain-free tomorrows.”
Adding a patient-centric perspective, RAG Secretary Dr Anuj Shukla emphasised: “Movement is medicine for joints. This walkathon proves that collective action can empower patients to live fully, free from the shadows of chronic pain.”
Extending the campaign’s national footprint, IRA President Dr Aman Sharma, who flagged off a parallel walkathon in Chandigarh, said: “This is a nationwide movement, and we organised walkathons in multiple cities of India at the same time today to spread awareness about rheumatology.”
The event also witnessed emotional and inspiring moments—patients sharing recovery journeys, including a young arthritis survivor rediscovering her passion for dance, and caregivers applauding Antardhwani’s support networks.
The initiative concluded with participants taking a pledge for awareness, early screening and sustained care, alongside announcements of follow-up webinars and community outreach programmes.
