For millions of devotees, Sawan is not merely a month on the calendar—it is a sacred season when the heart turns instinctively towards Mahadev. And now, even those unable to undertake the pilgrimage to the holy Jyotirlingas of Somnath and Kashi can receive their sacred Prasad at home.
In a spiritually significant initiative, the Department of Posts has made arrangements to deliver the Prasad of Shri Somnath Temple in Gujarat and Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi to devotees anywhere in the country through Speed Post during the holy month of Sawan.
Announcing the initiative, Krishna Kumar Yadav, Postmaster General, North Gujarat Region, said devotees need not be disappointed if they are unable to have darshan of the Jyotirlingas during this auspicious month.
A sacred offering from Somnath to every doorstep
Under an agreement between Shri Somnath Trust and the Department of Posts, devotees can obtain Somnath Prasad by placing an e-Money Order of ₹270 to the Manager, Shri Somnath Trust, Prabhas Patan, District Junagadh, Gujarat–362268.
The e-Money Order should be marked “Booking for Prasad”.
Following receipt of the order, Shri Somnath Trust will send a 400-gram packet of Prasad through Speed Post to the devotee’s address.
The sacred offering comprises 200 grams of Magas Laddoo, 100 grams of Sesame Chikki and 100 grams of Peanut Chikki, carrying the spiritual essence of the holy Somnath shrine.
For devotees across India, the initiative offers a special connection with Somnath—the first Jyotirlinga—without the barriers of distance or travel.
Kashi Vishwanath’s blessings delivered by Speed Post
The Department of Posts has similarly enabled devotees to receive the Prasad of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple at their doorstep.
Under an agreement between Shri Kashi Vishwanath Mandir Trust and the Department of Posts, devotees can send an e-Money Order of ₹251 in favour of the Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Varanasi (East) Division–221001, from their nearest Post Office.
As soon as the e-Money Order is received, the Prasad will be dispatched through Speed Post to the address furnished by the devotee.
The Kashi Vishwanath Prasad package includes an image of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Jyotirlinga, Mahamrityunjaya Yantra, Shri Shiv Chalisa, a 108-bead Rudraksh mala, a coin bearing the image of Bhole Baba with Mata Annapurna, Bhabhuti, Raksha Sutra, a Rudraksh bead, dry fruits and a packet of mishri, among other sacred items.
Faith meets technology
The Department of Posts has also made arrangements for devotees to receive Speed Post details through SMS on their mobile phones.
For this facility, devotees must clearly mention their complete postal address, PIN code and mobile number in the e-Money Order.
The initiative thus combines the timeless devotion associated with Sawan with the reach and reliability of India’s postal network.
A divine connection beyond distance
For a devotee, the fragrance of temple Prasad carries memories of darshan, prayer and surrender. During Sawan, when temples of Lord Shiva resonate with chants of Har Har Mahadev, this special postal initiative provides devotees who cannot travel with an opportunity to remain spiritually connected with two of India’s most revered Jyotirlingas.
From Somnath in Gujarat to Kashi in Uttar Pradesh, the blessings of Mahadev can now travel thousands of kilometres to the devotee’s doorstep—turning the humble Speed Post packet into a carrier of faith, devotion and divine grace.
In Sawan, when every prayer seeks Mahadev, distance need no longer stand between the devotee and Prasad.
