Sending a strong message of reassurance to consumers and industry alike, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) Chairman A S Sahney on Friday announced a major increase in the commercial LPG quota to 70% in Tamil Nadu, effective immediately—aimed at stabilising supply and easing market pressures.

Following a comprehensive review of the state’s fuel situation, Sahney underlined that India’s energy ecosystem remains robust despite global uncertainties.
“The supply of petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel remains absolutely comfortable,” he said, adding that refineries are operating at near-full capacity.
Reinforcing the government’s priority on household needs, he stated: “Domestic LPG remains our top priority, with Oil Marketing Companies meeting 100% of the state’s daily demand of approximately five lakh cylinders.”
While acknowledging a 6–8 day waiting period in some areas, Sahney assured swift corrective action. Addressing reports of delays exceeding 20 days in suburban Chennai, he said: “A detailed analysis was conducted last night, and these areas will be addressed by tomorrow evening.”
Essential services continue to receive uninterrupted support, with hospitals and educational institutions getting 100% LPG supply without restrictions.
In a decisive crackdown on irregularities, authorities have intensified enforcement measures.
“Oil Marketing Companies raids 1500 distributors across Tamil Nadu,” Sahney revealed, alongside over 10,000 inspections conducted by the state government to curb hoarding and malpractice.
Highlighting India’s strategic resilience amid a 40-day global conflict, Sahney noted a diversification in sourcing: crude oil is now procured from 41 geographies, up from 25, while LPG imports have also expanded globally.
Urging citizens to remain calm, he emphasised: “The government focuses on Availability, Distribution, and Affordability of Energy Resources.”
He also encouraged a gradual transition to Piped Natural Gas (PNG) as a cleaner and more economical alternative, even as supply chains navigate challenges in key maritime routes like the Strait of Hormuz, currently operating at a “tricklish rate.”
With strong inventories, expanded sourcing and strict monitoring, the Centre aims to ensure that Tamil Nadu’s energy needs remain uninterrupted and future-ready.
