Heavyweights Retained, Regions Strategised
The list reflects a carefully calibrated blend of seniority and electoral strength, with key leaders retained in their home turfs:
- K. P. Munusamy – Veppanahalli
- Dindigul C. Sreenivasan – Dindigul
- D. Jayakumar – Royapuram
- C. Ve. Shanmugam – Mailam
- C. Vijayabaskar – Viralimalai

NDA Matrix: Alliance Arithmetic Takes Centre Stage
The AIADMK, leading the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu, has finalised key seat-sharing arrangements:
- Bharatiya Janata Party – 27 seats
- Pattali Makkal Katchi – 18 seats
- Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam – 11 seats
Other NDA allies in Tamil Nadu include:
- Tamil Maanila Congress
- Puthiya Tamizhagam
- Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi
- Puratchi Bharatham
With this configuration, AIADMK is set to contest the lion’s share of the 234 seats, positioning itself as the fulcrum of the alliance.
“This is a coalition built on complementing strengths across regions and communities,” alliance sources said.
Annamalai Factor: Strategy Over Candidacy?
A key subplot in the NDA narrative is the role of K. Annamalai.
Reports suggest that the former state BJP chief may opt out of contesting the 2026 Assembly elections, choosing instead to spearhead campaign efforts across Tamil Nadu.
“I will first talk to the leadership before taking a decision,” Annamalai had said earlier.
Party insiders maintain that:
“There is no rift—his focus is on strengthening the alliance campaign statewide.”
Meanwhile, Nainar Nagendran is keen to contest from Tirunelveli, while leaders like Vanathi Srinivasan are expected to be fielded from key constituencies.
First-Mover Advantage in a Crowded Field
While Naam Tamilar Katchi has already announced candidates for all 234 seats, the AIADMK becomes the first major Dravidian party to roll out its list.
The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam is yet to unveil its candidates, making this an early strategic move to shape the narrative.
“Releasing the list early helps consolidate cadre energy and send a message of preparedness,” analysts observe.
Battle Lines Drawn for April 23
Tamil Nadu heads to polls on April 23, with the AIADMK-led NDA banking on:
- Leadership continuity
- Alliance arithmetic
- Regional strongholds
Against this backdrop, the poll battlefield is set for a high-voltage contest.
“This election will test not just alliances, but leadership credibility and grassroots connect,” a senior political watcher remarked.
