Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday met Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat in Gandhinagar. Later, he offered prayers at Shree Jagannath Temple in Ahmedabad on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.

After offering prayers Shah also fed the temple elephants. Taking part in the merry-making, Amit Shah flew kites on a terrace in the Vejalpur area of Ahmedabad.

Amit Shah also offered prayers at Kapileshwar Mahadev Temple in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. His wife Sonal Shah was also present with him.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel joined the festivities of Uttarayan with his family and participated in kite-flying celebrations at Dariapur’s Nava Taliya Ni Pol in Ahmedabad.

Gujarat Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi was also seen celebrating the festival by flying kites in his hometown Surat with his family members and friends.
The skies teemed with kites of all colours and shapes while music and delicacies such as fafda-jalebi, undhiyu and chikki added to the fun. It was after a gap of two years that the festival was celebrated without the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Best wishes to all of you. May this festival of kites bring joy, excitement and enthusiasm in our lives, wish all of you stay healthy,” Modi said in his message in Gujarati on his Twitter handle.
“Wishing you all a very Happy Makar Sankranti. A prayer that Lord Suryanarayan’s journey to the north may bring growth in the lives of all and strengthen the sense of well-being and brotherhood in the society,” tweeted Patel.

The first day is celebrated as Uttarayan while the second one as Basi Uttarayan. On this day, Skies are dotted with colorful, attractive kites, balloons and terraces are filled with people from all ages. People enjoy the festival with traditional spicy winter dish called undhiyu, and delicious local sweet dishes such as Chikki, Tal Sakli.
Tamils gear up for four-day Pongal celebrations in Gujarat
Gujarat has a population of over 10 lakh Tamils, including 1.5 lakh in the twin cities of Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad.

In Tamil-dominated Maninagar-Khokhra areas of Ahmedabad wore a festive look as people started celebrating the four-day Pongal festival in a grand and befitting manner.
Special poojas will be held at Sri Balamurugan Devasthanam Trust-run Sri Karthikswamy temple, in Hatkeshwar, Sri Muthumariamman temples in Hari Colony-Khokhra and Mothinagar-Amaraiwadi on Sunday to welcome Tamil month Thai in Ahmedabad.
Also Tamils in Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Gandhinagar and Kalol and other parts of Gujarat will join in this Tamilar Thirunaal celebrations.
Cashing in on the festive spirit of Tamils, many multiplexes in Gujarat have started screening Thala Ajith’s ‘Thunivu’, and Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Vaarisu’ from January 11. Tamil fans welcomed the digital cinema with great enthusiasm.
