R ARIVANANTHAM
Bhag a supernatural evil spirit living on land and water, is imprisoned within the river Brahmaputra. Unexpectedly, ‘Bhag’ escapes from the river. On the other hand, Saravanan (Sunder.C) lives in Chennai with his aunt (Kovai Sarala) who is a lawyer. He loves his younger sister Selvi (Tamanna) who is separated from him after marrying for love. In this case, one day when he gets news that his sister and her husband (Santosh Pratap) have died, he goes to the old palace where they lived.
Sensing that there is a suspicion in the death of both and the danger to his sister’s children, Saravanan tries to solve it, but mysterious deaths and supernatural incidents occur. Sundar.C’s ‘Aranmanai – 4’ answers questions like who is responsible for the series of deaths, what is the relationship between ‘Bhag’ and these murders, did Saravanan save the children in the usual ‘Aranmanai formula’.
- Sentiment, action, comedy, horror, fast-paced chases have all been perfectly codified and worked out, making the entire film a complete package
- The film answers questions like who is responsible for the series of deaths, what is the relationship between ‘Bhag’ and these murders
- Tamannaah is stunning in her emotional roles as a loving mother and a terrifying ghost
Sundar C, who gets away with acting measured in the action, in the scenes of violence and in tense moments, fails to convey the emotions with superficial acting in the heartwarming scenes. Tamannaah is stunning in her emotional roles as a loving mother and a terrifying ghost. Among the supporting cast, only Ramachandra Raju’s character has been given due imporance. His performance is no less. Santhosh Pratap has given an okay contribution to the role of ‘heroine’s husband’ who has no big job.
Trailer:
Kovai Sarla pierces through ‘lengthy’ verses and exaggeration. Yogi Babu-VTV Ganesh-Delhi Ganesh’s alliance is making people laugh only in a few places. Those who score the climax may have had the same impact on the film as a whole. Yogi, when will you release parody comedies? Jayaprakash, Rashi Khanna, Singam Puli have done the work given to them.
Krishnasamy’s cinematography is perfect for the night time horror scenes and the climax action scenes. Fanny Oliver’s cinematography fails to curb the ‘drag’ of the first half. In the music of ‘HipHop’ Adi, the song ‘Jo Jo Jo’ in the voice of Meenakshi Ilayaraja is comforting, while other songs threaten to damage the ears. Aadhi’s background score enhances the film by enhancing the thrilling scenes and thrilling moments.
Although Gururaj’s art direction is noticeable in the way he brings to mind a ‘spooky’ palace, the jungles and caves that appear to be the stark setting could have been created with more effort. Extra effort could have been put into the unsightly ‘graphics’ scenes as well. At the same time, the grand idol set, temple set, and the fight scenes filmed in the climax are awe-inspiring.
Ancient palace, supernatural powers, mysterious deaths, love struggles, comedians alliance pranks, Sundar.C, who solves mysteries, good supernatural vs. evil supernatural power, auspicious scenes have been copied from the usual palace formula, whitewashes it in color, stacks some eversilver characters, and creates a new one. Director Sundar C has turned it into a palace and given it as a full-fledged commercial entertainment.
Even though it starts with a dramatic introduction about the supernatural power ‘Bhag’, the opening screenplay tries for unnecessary action, superficial sentimental scenes and outdated template comedies. The film heats up as Sundar C approaches the supernatural, and the film moves in a frenzy until the final scene. Although many scenes, many twists and many characters from the ‘Aranmanai’ series are repeated in this one too, interesting things like the ghost of ‘Bhag’, its qualities, the dynamic scenes that keep running even though there is no logic, the action scenes between the ghosts, those ‘regular… .’ make one to forget the flaws in the film-making.
Sentiment, action, comedy, horror, fast-paced chases have all been perfectly codified and worked out, making the entire film a complete package. It is nothing but an old wine in new bottle.
