In a sweeping nationwide crackdown aimed at dismantling alleged real estate fraud networks, the Central Bureau of Investigation has conducted coordinated searches at 77 locations across eight states and Union Territories in connection with builder-financial institution nexus cases.

The agency has registered 22 new cases following directions from the Supreme Court of India, targeting alleged collusion between certain builders and officials of financial institutions that reportedly led to the cheating and defrauding of unsuspecting homebuyers.

According to officials, these large-scale operations form part of a broader nationwide investigation into fraudulent practices within the housing and real estate sector. The searches resulted in the seizure of incriminating documents, digital devices, and other materials, which are currently under detailed examination.
The probe seeks to uncover a wider conspiracy involving diversion of funds, financial irregularities, and systemic manipulation within the sector. Investigators are focusing on tracking money trails and identifying key actors involved in the alleged nexus.
It may be recalled that the CBI had earlier registered 28 cases against various builders in compliance with the Supreme Court’s directions, which are now in the final stages of investigation. With the addition of the latest cases, the total number of investigations initiated under court directives has reached 50.
Reaffirming its resolve, the agency stated that it remains committed to ensuring accountability. “CBI reiterates its commitment in conducting a fair, impartial, and expeditious investigation to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice and safeguard the interests of affected homebuyers.”
The crackdown signals a strong message to the real estate sector, as authorities intensify efforts to restore trust and transparency in housing transactions across the country.
