Stating that the digital backbone created through computerisation will enable PACS to expand business models, venture into e-marketing, and provide digital services to rural communities, Shaji K V, Chairman, NABARD said, “PACS’ Computerisation Project has shown encouraging progress at the national level. More than 52,500 PACS have completed day-end operations, over 9,000 PACS are performing dynamic day-end, and more than 33,000 audits have been completed using the audit module of ePACS software. In addition, over 7,500 PACS have already been declared as ‘ePACS Only’ by the competent authorities.”

In his keynote address at a Regional Workshop for Strengthening Cooperatives in Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra & Uttar Pradesh, organised by The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Telangana Regional Office, Hyderabad in association with the Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India and Cooperation Department held on Wednesday at DR. Marri Channa Reddy, Human Resource Development of Telangana Hyderabad under the banner of the International Year of Cooperatives 2025 theme “Cooperatives Build a Better World,” he also emphasized and urged StCBs to onboard on to ‘Sahakari Sarathi’ for providing hassle free services.
“The digital backbone created through computerisation will enable PACS to expand business models, venture into e-marketing, and provide digital services to rural communities. Business Process Re-engineering and integration with higher-tier cooperative institutions and Core Banking Systems will streamline operations, eliminate duplication, and promote efficiency and financial inclusion. Parallelly, the Grain Storage Plan under which storage facilities are being created in 29,000 PACS will further strengthen infrastructure, support farmers, and boost rural income,” he added.
Siddharth Jain, IAS, Jt. Secretary, Ministry of Cooperation, Govt. of India, in his opening address underscored the critical role of cooperatives in fostering rural prosperity, enhancing food security and catalysing inclusive growth. He also stressed up for adoption of technologies by PACS for narrowing the gap between Rural & Urban by providing multi services.

Govardhan Singh Rawat, Deputy Managing Director, NABARD; B. Uday Bhaskar, Chief General Manager, NABARD, Telangana Regional Office; Sanjay Gupta and Dr. Suman Kumar, Chief General Managers, NABARD, Head Office; were also present during the daylong workshop.
Over the course of the day, participants engaged in a rich exchange of insights on formation of new Multipurpose Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (MPACS), scaling up operation of existing PACSI MPACS, accelerating construction of Grain Storage infrastructure in Cooperatives to safeguard farmers’ produce and driving the Computerisation of PACS to usher in a new era of transparency, efficiency and digital record-keeping.
Uday Bhaskar, CGM observed that need of the hour is convergence of multi-agency initiatives, strengthening cooperative banking linkages, harnessing the business activities among cooperatives and building institutional capacities through targeted training and technology adoption.
G.S. Rawat, Dy. MD, NABARD stated that by mapping out actionable roadmaps, sharing state-level successes and identifying solutions to common challenges, the workshop set the stage for a concerted push towards resilient, self-reliant cooperatives that can better serve their members and communities. With this collaborative workshop, NABARD reaffirmed its commitment to empowering grassroots institutions, facilitating credit flow and championing cooperative governance reforms that will drive sustainable development.
The gathering brought together senior leadership from the Ministry of Cooperation, Govt. of India; State Cooperation Departments, FCI, Food & Civil Supplies Departments, State Cooperative Banks, NDDB, NFDB & TGDDCF.
