In a sweeping political narrative spanning East, Northeast and the South, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday declared that “people’s power has prevailed,” as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) scripted a landmark victory in West Bengal, retained Assam, and secured another term in Puducherry, while Tamil Nadu witnessed a tectonic shift with C. Joseph Vijay’s TVK emerging as the single-largest party.

Bengal breakthrough, ‘Lotus blooms’
Calling the West Bengal verdict historic, Modi said:

“The Lotus blooms in West Bengal! The 2026 Assembly Elections will be remembered forever. People’s power has prevailed, and the BJP’s politics of good governance has triumphed. I bow to each and every person of West Bengal.”
He credited the victory to the party’s grassroots cadre: “This record victory would not have been possible without the efforts and struggles of countless karyakartas over generations… They are the strength of our party.”
Modi assured that the BJP would deliver a government ensuring “opportunity and dignity to all sections of society.”
Assam stays with NDA
In Assam, the NDA’s return to power reaffirmed the coalition’s development narrative.
“Assam blesses BJP-NDA once again!” Modi said, adding:
“This victory illustrates unwavering support for our emphasis on development and bringing a positive difference in people’s lives.”
He lauded party workers for strengthening the alliance over the past decade: “Their efforts have ensured our positive agenda has struck a chord with the people.”
Puducherry endorses governance model
Thanking voters in Puducherry, Modi said: “Based on our track record of good governance and the work of the government led by N Rangasamy, the people have blessed NDA with another term. These blessings will add momentum to our collective efforts.”
Tamil Nadu: End of an era?
While the BJP-led alliance made incremental gains, the bigger headline came from Tamil Nadu, where TVK’s debut surge has fractured decades-old Dravidian dominance.
Modi acknowledged the shift, stating:
“Congratulations to TVK on their impressive performance. The Centre will leave no stone unturned in furthering the progress of Tamil Nadu and the well-being of their people.”
Political observers describe the verdict as a “post-dynasty moment”, with voters—especially youth and women—backing a change narrative over legacy politics.
A senior analyst noted, “This election marks the beginning of the end of entrenched political dynasties in Tamil Nadu. The electorate has voted for aspiration over inheritance.”
Kerala offers contrast
In Kerala, however, the Congress-led UDF staged a comeback, winning or leading in a majority of seats. Modi struck a conciliatory note:
“I congratulate the UDF on its victory… The Centre will always support the developmental aspirations of the people of Keralam.”
Shah underscores governance plank
Union Home Minister Amit Shah echoed the Prime Minister’s sentiment, stating: “From Bengal to Assam, people have endorsed the politics of development, transparency and decisive leadership. This is a victory of performance over propaganda.”
A national political inflection point
The 2026 Assembly verdicts collectively signal a wider national churn—with governance, delivery, and organisational depth increasingly outweighing identity-based and dynasty-driven politics.
From the BJP’s eastward expansion to the NDA’s Northeast consolidation, and Tamil Nadu’s political disruption, the results underline a multi-polar, performance-driven electoral landscape.
