NEW DELHI, JULY 1
Describing Chartered Accountants as the “Ambassadors of Trust”, Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Wednesday called upon the profession to remain the guardians of ethics, transparency and accountability as India marches towards becoming a Viksit Bharat, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the CA fraternity as trusted partners in the nation’s economic transformation.
Addressing the 78th Chartered Accountants’ Day and Foundation Day celebrations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, the Vice-President said Chartered Accountants occupy a place of special importance in India’s development journey by strengthening institutions through ethical governance and financial discipline.
“Chartered Accountants are the ‘Ambassadors of Trust’.”
Calling ethics the cornerstone of sustainable progress, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan said:
“Economic growth without ethics can never truly serve society.”
He emphasised that India’s aspiration to become a developed nation by 2047 is built not merely on economic milestones but on transparent governance, trusted institutions, equal opportunities and prosperity for every citizen.
Referring to India’s remarkable economic rise, he observed that the country has emerged as the world’s fourth-largest economy within a short period and is well positioned to become the third-largest global economy.
The Vice-President also praised ICAI for preserving the quality of the Chartered Accountancy profession through rigorous examinations and urged the Institute to remain steadfast.
“Never dilute your examination standards; you are safeguarding the system.”
Quoting the celebrated Tamil saint-poet Thiruvalluvar, he said wealth earned through righteous means alone creates lasting happiness and urged Chartered Accountants to promote fair competition by protecting honest businesses while firmly discouraging unethical practices.
Highlighting the profession’s contribution to nation-building, Shri Radhakrishnan said Chartered Accountants have played a pivotal role in implementing landmark reforms such as the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) initiatives and tax reforms, significantly improving transparency, compliance and investor confidence.
Addressing Chartered Accountants and aspiring professionals, he reminded them that every audit, certification and financial opinion influences businesses, governments and society at large, urging them to uphold the highest standards of integrity throughout their careers.
The Vice-President also encouraged ICAI’s district-level associations to actively support the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative by developing domain expertise in local products. Such knowledge, he said, would help producers reduce costs without compromising quality, improve competitiveness and strengthen local economies.
On the occasion, Radhakrishnan launched the Peer Review Board (PRB) Web Portal of ICAI and the ICAI Jan Utsav Portal, developed in collaboration with MyGov, to mark the 78th Chartered Accountants’ Day and encourage wider public participation.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings to the Chartered Accountant fraternity, acknowledging their enduring contribution to India’s economic progress.
In a message posted on X, the Prime Minister said: “Greetings on Chartered Accountants’ Day to the entire CA fraternity. They have long been trusted partners in India’s economic journey. Through their commitment to transparency and professional excellence, they strengthen our financial systems, support businesses, encourage entrepreneurship and inspire confidence among investors. Their expertise contributes significantly to economic growth and nation-building. As we move towards becoming a Viksit Bharat, their efforts help create an environment where enterprise can flourish and opportunities can expand for all.”
The celebrations were attended by ICAI President Prasanna Kumar D., Vice-President Mangesh P. Kinare, members of the Central Council, former Presidents of the Institute, distinguished guests, Chartered Accountants and students from across the country.
